Alliance for Taxpayer Access Petition in Support of FRPAA

Published Feb 9, 2012

We, the undersigned, strongly believe the public deserves access to articles reporting on the research our tax dollars fund.  The public dissemination of this research is a crucial part of our collective investment in scientific and scholarly research and plays a central role in maximizing our return on that investment.

For these reasons, we call on the United States Congress to pass the bipartisan Federal Research Public Access Act, which would require articles resulting from federally funded research be made freely available within six months of publication.  By doing so, the government will create opportunities for unprecedented access and use of research - accelerating scientific discovery, improving students' educations, benefitting businesses, and serving the general public - while providing flexible safeguards to protect the interests of those who contribute to ensuring the validity and quality of research results.
