VOTE FOR PUBLIC ACCESS as a priority for individual agencies -- by MARCH 19

As another part of the Administration's Open Government Directive, each individual agency has been asked to create an open government Web site. Now, each of those Web sites is a forum for public comment on the development of their open government plans -- and how they might foster transparency, collaboration, participation, innovation, and more.

yes we want public access
I am a research scientist and a citizen with a keen interest in a number of public policy issues that often depend critically on thorough scientific and engineering understanding. Yet I am often frustrated in both these roles by a lack of access to research literature. This is particularly galling when the research in question was conducted at public expense, especially now that not only peer-reviewed papers but the supporting raw data, research notes (meta-data), software codes, and other background could easily be made publicly accessible on the internet.
I therefore encourage and support this Administration's Open Government Directive.
Online public access to data, reports, communications, and research funded by taxpayers is one of the most democratic initiatives our government has faced in the history of our nation. This access would benefit all American citizens, regardless of nationality, gender, age, education, or physical ability.
I strongly encourage all federal agencies that have not already done so to create an open government Web site.
As a university faculty member and librarian, I support public access to federally funded research.
I think this is an extremely imporant initiative for our govenement to focus on. The sooner the better! Thanks.
